This is really interesting! I always thought of Southern American English as a variety of accents, but never really considered the Northern Midwest to also have linguistic differences and change, although I suppose it was silly to assume that!

Having lived in Cleveland my whole life I can say that I’ve never heard anyone use this vowel shift.
