In this video I speak about how and in what situations I use multiband compression in mastering. I show you my settings for different scenarios. For this purpose, I use my analog multiband compressor Drawmer 1973. And of course, all these techniques and settings can be applied on any digital multiband compressor.

I have a weird setup, UA LA610MKII, Tascam Model 24, AudioScape Buss Comp printing to a Tascam DP-03 which has mastering functionality. I’m currently looking at a Heritage Audio Symph for a stereo mastering EQ and this 1973 since the plug-in has become very popular for mastering. There’s some tricks that can be done with it (de-sser)or tightening bottom end. I work without a computer and would like to have a few pieces of gear that could get me just as good results as in the box. Coming from 20 years of ProTools experience and my 2012 MacPro crapped out this year. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also looking for a rack mountable spectrum analyzer, kinda used to seeing what’s going on in the mix. Any thoughts about the BDS PP-31? It’s the only outboard spectrum analyzer I’m finding on the market at the moment.
