It looks like processed or prepared foods & soju are a lot cheaper than in my local store, but the produce is about the same & meat is cheaper here. It’s interesting to see how different it all is!

As a Canadian, you are so lucky to have those low prices

I’d be crushing my own garlic at that price.

I've been telling our US grocery store to install those electronic price tags for weeks now. Would save so much money and time!

In UK - bag of carrots 500g £0.70, squash £0.80, potatoes £1, greek yoghurt 500 g £1.89 - these are budget stores where there bulk buying is not allowed so that everyone has a chance. Hence the price can be kept low and eating healthy is encouraged! :) Also Brits love taking up vegetable allotments to grow their own produce and the waiting period for such allotments can take up to 3 years!

Don’t be fooled by the number of items. Once you start going into the fruit section, a regular size watermelon costs around $20 and over $10 for a dozen imported bananas. The milk you just saw is in a 1L container meaning for a gallon of milk you are paying $8. Fresh unprocessed foods and ingredients tend to run cheaper than the states but once you start going into the processed food region or food service sector the price skyrockets easily surpassing any US suburbs and close to NYC or Tokyo - while the average income of Koreans is about 60-70% of that American.

Here in the States, you can get the same meat, potatoes, and 1 drink for $40. Instead of drinks, I would get snacks which would be veggie trays because they are the best. So it would literally be just the meat and the veggie tray for $40

Honest to God, went shopping yesterday in East London (Lidl & M&S, if anyone cares) came back with half a kilo of ground beef, 6 chicken drumsticks, pack of 8 chicken wings, pasta, rice, flour, sugar ( 1kg of each), carrots, red onions, eggplants, actual eggs x15, 2 packs of salami slices, and 2x tiramisu dessert thingies, set me back about £28. Then stopped by greengrocers (aka Turkish shop) near my house and picked up 2 kilos of tomatoes for 3 pounds total....

The fact that you were able to get all that $40 is amazing. I certainly can't walk into a store and come out with all that for 40
