I did this but with vegetable broth instead of water, diced the onions, minced the garlic and added more seasoning and it tasted amazing

I'd probably sauteed the onion and garlic first and definitely use stock instead of water.

Adjustments I made:

Start by sauteeing the garlic, onions, and tomatoes in olive oil until they start getting some color. Take off heat. Add pasta. Add in chicken stock, not water. Generously salt and pepper, not too much salt though because parm is salty. Add more red pepper flakes and some Italian seasoning. Once the pasta is done, add the Parmesan to the pan and stir around so it becomes homogenous. Add in a pat of butter and mix that up as well. Serve

I made this tonight. I changed a few things. I used whole wheat pasta, bullion instead of salt, and added a few table spoons of tomato paste. I sauted the onions and garlic in sesame oil and then added everything else. I added water until just covered. It actually came out very good.

A family favorite now, thank you! My 8yr old daughter cooks this (supervised), and it's just enough for the four of us. Fresh basil is AMAZING! Before this recipe we had never prepared anything with fresh basil, and now we grow our own.

Just made this. It actually came out much better than I expected it to. A few tips: You might have to drain it a little when 11 minutes has passed. Season as you cook as well. Season after, salt and pepper. Ensure you add both the olive oil and cheese after. Great, simple dish.

I made this with my own little twist and its probably the best spaghetti I've ever made. I added powdered chicken broth to the water, and sprinkled in some chicken spice. I then fried chicken strips in butter and olive oil and mixed it into the spaghetti after. (Including the left over butter) so good!

Wow. After ready some of the comments, people are reacting to this as if she clubbed a baby seal. It is not authentic Italian. Nowhere and nobody is saying that you have to cook pasta like this. It was just a suggestion. And as far as crazy food goes, this is mild. It's not like she is saying to mix crab meat and strawberries and serve with peanut sauce. Seriously.

This is a lovely and very quick and easy dish! I tweaked, using an organic veggie broth cube in the water to add some taste, and baby spinach instead of basil, as I didn't have fresh basil. Left out the chili flakes and the cheese. And used less water. In 11 mins, as she saids, the pasta was al dente, the broth gave a lovely salty taste and the water had just about evaporated without dry cooking it. I did not stir it all the way through, just put it on and came back to it after 9 mins of cooking it. Absolutely lovely, fully picky eater child-proof and I will be making this a lot!

it's not pasta. it's soup of boiled onions.

I made this, but I used chicken broth and sauteed the onions and garlic first. It is delicious!!!! Don't believe all the naysayers. We loved it and will make it again in a heartbeat!

Instead of using water, you can use broth, adds more flavour. I also love this recipe

The raw garlic and. onions... at least brown them in olive oil first.

This is great! just use chicken stock in place of the water for extra flavor. I also add my basil leaves at the end, right before serving, they taste way better that way ♡

Was very sceptical when I tried this, but being a beginner and from India where a lot of the Italian ingredients are hard to come by, I had to try this simple dish. And the taste amased me. It took a little longer for me to cook but the oil, Tomatoes and the spices gave a very mild flavour which was absolutely delicious. Totally love this recipe.

LOVED this! Couple of minor changes: used 8 ounces of pasta instead of 12 (for just 2 ppl), sautéed the onions first (vidala—nice and sweet), used 2tsp minced garlic instead of raw cloves, and used 1/2 low sodium chicken broth 1/2 cold water. Delicious! Cooks the way she shows, no extra time or cooking needed. Use thick dry pasta like buccatini or fettuccine, so it won’t cook too quickly. Martha Stewart deserves her #humblebrag on this, it‘s a winner.
