It’s a full review of the latest sub-compact EV offering from Hyundai. The 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric reviewed by Jenny.

The 2019 Hyundai Kona is the first fully electric SUV from Hyundai and it’s good. It adds to the credibility that Hyundai has been building over the past decade and is another reason why they continue to grow in popularity here in Australia.

The electric motor under the bonnet develops 150 kW and 395 Nm of torque. It gets to 100 in 7.6 seconds

Standard charging takes 9 hours and 35 minutes, while fast 100kW DC charging takes 54 minutes to get you 80% battery.

If you are looking for a small, fully electric vehicle from a renowned manufacturer, the Kona Electric is potentially the best choice at the moment.

80% charging time is not "pure" marketing. I don't deny that a "shorter" charging time makes the vehicle more appealing. But there's is a real scientific rationale behind recommendations to charge up to 80% for day-to-day use, namely battery health. A battery's chemistry functions best in the 30% to 80% range, and keeping the battery in this range reduces degradation.
If you'd like an ICE analogy, it is somewhat similar to not idling all the time and/or revving to the redline all the time, during which times the engine uses the most gasoline and/or sustains the most wear-and-tear.
Otherwise an evenly keeled review in a relatively new segment. Keep it up.

Wrong.... 80% is to make the battery live longer .. 20-80% is the healthy range for these batteries

So if you use a Tesla charger to charge a Kona in Australia do you pay for it? How does payment work and what is the cost?

Attempting to charge a hyundai at a tesla supercharger is just borderline stupid... Not to mention the fact that it doesn't work, you are also taking a stall from somebody who could actually use it 🙄

Loved it Jenny - just like Simone, great review full of the most useful insights into the car and how it is to live with. And again great to see smart, articulate young women out there should how great they can be. Keep up the good work!

Showing Kona at Tesla supercharger is hugely misleading. Supercharger network is one of the Tesla's big advantages over other EVs and pretending that you can fast-charge Kona as easily as Tesla is a big lie.
Shame on you, miss!
