Solar Pool Heater Review for In Ground Pools Smartpool Sunheater

This is a review for the Smartpool WWS601P Sunheater Solar Pool Heater for In Ground Pools. I installed this heater on my fiberglass inground pool and just put it on the pool fence with zip-ties. I didn't plumb into the pool plumbing at the pump and put it on the roof permanently because I wanted to test it and thought that I may just want it for the pre and post season warming.

Result:
- With direct sunshine the temperature rises 10 degrees on the exit end of the tube
- Some heating results in the shade
- My pool is 70 degrees F and my neighbors is 54 degrees with similar sun
- 3 weeks ago the kids were sledding in the snow and now we are swimming (they enjoy it but a little cool for me)
- The heat blanket has been on when the pool is not used
- I do not run it at night or during cool overcast days so that it doesn't reverse the process and cool the pool
- It has reached 74 degrees one day last week March 18
- Night time temps of 43 degrees average
- Day time temps of 55-82 degrees with the average of about 67 degrees
- for 2 weeks we have had about 50% sunshine and 2 days of rain with about 2-3 inches of rain

Installation:
I chose to just put the solar heater on the fence beside my pool facing the South. My neighbor and 2 other visitors just thought is was a privacy screen on the fence. I used a screw in fitting to attach the hose to the jet in the wall of the pool. I used a valve on an open end to control the flow of the water through the solar heater collector. The installation took about an hour and I took my time. I used irrigation tubing to run the water from the manifold on the jet to the solar heater and back. The installation kit purchased separately includes a pressure limiter to prevent damage and preserve the warranty.
Must use a solar blanket:
The solar blanket keeps the water from loosing it's heat at night. In windy conditions the water will cool also without the cover. Be very careful to keep kids clear and adults from falling in.

Nice video.. what size/volume is your pool? So you basically tied into the existing pump on the pull off the return correct? Any reason why you didnt split it off at the pump (after the pump)? Thinking of this for mine, i have a salt water generator after the pump and was going to plumb it from there with a diverter bypass kit and back to the SWG (already have a return robot split on the return).

You should have a LOT more gallons per minute going through with a much lower delta T. The ideal delta T is 2 degrees with a few thousand gallons per hour. Good luck.
