Adding to the other things I mentioned, at this point it looks like they are not letting you edit off of external SSD's... :(

Im not happy with subscription model. Im just going to stick with free davinci resolve

So tired of companies turning everything into a subscription.

I've been a professional video editor for over 20 years and I can honestly say I've never once wished I could edit on an 11" screen. I rarely edited on my 13" MBP without using an external monitor. And without external SSD support FCP on an iPad makes even less sense. You can buy a 13" MBP with 16GB/2TB for less than a 12.9" iPad Pro with same specs and keyboard.

I think da Vinci did it right with not using him subscription model, but I’m glad Apple is putting pro apps on the iPad finally. Justifies my purchase of the iPad Air 5

Subscriptions for Final Cut will be good for people who didn’t want to pay hundreds to try it like on the Mac, but it should be free if you already bought it outright.

Most if not all of these features are probably going to be in the next update of FCP I would guess. The biggest clue is of course that you can move the project to your computer, so it would only make sense to have full control once you're there.

For people already have FCP desktop version, this is not a deal. If you already got a desktop version, how often you really use iPad to use FCP. Plus, you can’t use external SSD, there are too many limitations on top paying subscription. In 10 years, it will be a huge bill. If I really need to use FCP on the go, I would get a MacBook Air with much better use.

Nope, not buying a subscription. Having been keen on iPads since the first one, the ‘subscription’ model means I’ll be biasing the MacBook and or biasing da Vinci resolve either way. I left adobe due to subscription - there are equally good or even better options out there - could that become true for apple as well?

This is BY FAR the most important thing Apple has done for the iPad. I just started my content creation journey and now I'm compelled to upgrade my 2020 iPad Pro at some point, maybe after the next iPad Pro's drop because those will have better hardware upgrades than the recent M2 Pro's.

Apple really needs to update FCP for Mac to a real professional NLE.
It is years behind Resolve, namely the color grading features like proper color masks with blur control.

This feels like foreshadowing for a 16" iPad Studio/Ultra with the new custom iPad OS for professionals.

Another subscription... I just hate them... That makes it a non starter for me... I don't care it if its 50 cents a monthr or 5 dollars, I just don't agree with having to rent stuff I want to use. I happily pay for a license instead.

One major reason why the Mac version of FCP has lost its position of the number one editing platform for Tv shows, and a top contender for movies is because Apple has chosen not to continue to update the product with major new features to compete with Avid and others. They had Avid in the run at one point. But the they gave Motion away for free, previously $1, 000, gave other software for free, dropped the Final Cut Studio name and dropped the price to $1, 000. Then dropped it to $300 with free upgrades. That’s was great for single amateurs and semi pros. But it’s also when Apple stopped adding major features. It’s now lost much of its market in high end areas.

So now they’re going for the Tic Toc crowd. This is aimed there as well. But with subscriptions, hopefully with that continuing revenue they’ll keep making substantial improvements over the years.

It’s amazing how cheap so many people are.

If good and updated royalty free music and sound effects are included, the monthly price is ok for me. It is actually cheaper than Epidemic sound and Artlist!

I believe while you can't import entire FCP desktop libraries into this iPad version, you could export out a mp4 file from desktop FCP, import it into the iPad version, and then use the drawing tools on specific sections before re-exporting,

can't use external drives is a deal breaker. They are forcing you to spend the enormous apple tax to upgrade storage.

I am super excited about this. I will definitely make use of the feature to draw with the Apple Pencil as an animation. I can't wait for that.

This is the problem with the iPad everything is a subscription. Excel word PowerPoint Adobe and now Final Cut pro, honestly this is what’s holding it back

Subscription? Instantly NO to a dystopian future where “you’ll own nothing and be happy.” I hope more people will tell Apple that this is not acceptable!
