Japan is the only country in the world with an economy that has been weakening for 30 years.
Taxes have been getting heavier and heavier in recent years due to the declining birthrate and aging population.
Despite such a situation, did you know that only about 30% of Japanese young people in their teens to thirties even vote?
Do they not care about their future?
There are said to be these main reasons why.
1.Lack of interest in politics
2.Distrust of candidates and political parties
3.Voting procedures are troublesome
We hardly learn anything about politics and voting through compulsory education.
So even though many Japanese people complain about modern society, they don’t even understand how politics are related or how to vote.
All the information most people only have are the negative news about how horrible politicians are.
Unless more people take an interest in elections and practice their own rights, Japan's politics for the elderly will never end.

If I remember correctly, a lot of Japanese politicians prioritize appealing to the aging population of japan rather than the youth.

4th reasons is We don’t know who to vote and who they are.

4. They have given up as they will never be able to outvote the boomers. Its just demographics

And that is exactly why they DON'T teach it at schools.

Even if all polticians are terrible (which is mostly true) I still vote. I vote for the least worst of them. It is better than getting the worst one.

It is a self-perpetuating issue, and not just in Japan. Politicians will focus on the group that votes in highest numbers. That results in other groups voting less, because their interests are taken into consideration less and less. This results in politicians caring about their opinions less and less.
An example of a vicious circle/negative feedback loop if there ever was one.

Japanese learn from an early age that they don’t want to change the status quo or you will not fit into society. Even when situations are bad they learn they just have to deal with it. This is why youth don’t vote as they feel their voice doesn’t matter.

I don’t think the declining birth rate is something to worry about too much. Japan is roughly the size of California but has nearly half the population of USA.

Eventually Japan will need to rely on its youth to keep functioning. This when change will happen. Hopefully for the better.

I just hope nothing bad happens to Japan.

There have been a lot of bad things going in in a lot of places, Japan, Korea, even America, with causes such as inflation, declining birth rate, and the government going towards older people instead of caring for the young.

To be honest, reasons number 1 and 2 are also the reason why there is a low voter turnout in the US.

Because a lot of the candidates show themselves to be untrustworthy (especially since they all say the same talking points) and hand wave a lot of the issues that people care about until the next voting season, a lot of people have become a lot more skeptical of politicians (if they even care).

I guess that is an issue that comes up across the board.

These older people can’t continue to believe that what worked in the 60s, 70s, and 80s will work today. While I get that more people are aging, you cannot continue building a society only for the older people. You have to be able to hand over that responsibility to more younger people otherwise they will inherit a society that will collapse on them because it was never for them to begin with.

4th reason: It always ends up not in their favor and advantages

This is something that happens in a lot of countries, just varying in severity.

My Japanese neighbors, I advise you to never underestimate politics and never to lack the interest in it. Unfortunately, behavior like this leads to the horrible dictatorship. From Russia.

Online voting will be quite beneficial for Japan in this situation.

It's also worth noting that Japan, although a democracy, is essentially a one party state, and until viable opposition emerges, voting will seem unappealing.
