But what killed me about this song the first time I heard it was I had had a lot of thoughts after September 11, of the people in the towers, the passengers, the first responders, their families etc, but had never considered the impact it would have had on someone like Captain Bass. To have felt that burning passion, their whole life, to fly, and like Captain Bass, may have had to overcome many obstacles in their life to make that happen, and then to have the thing they loved most in the world weaponised in the way it was. I heard that line and I was like "Damn, I had never thought of that 9/11 from that perspective before", and what a dagger to the heart it must have been.
