How to replicate Wes Anderson color grading in Asteroid City:

We've all been inspired by the magical look of certain films on the big screen and often wonder if it’s possible to recreate the same aesthetic in our own filmmaking.

Well you’re in luck! Although lighting, composition and art direction play a critical role in the basis of a look it’s really the color grading that shapes the final color palette or as in the case of Wes Anderson’s films provides a great case study for us.

In this tutorial, you'll discover the 7 secrets to recreating the same whimsical, vibrant, and highly stylized look that's found in Anderson’s latest film Asteroid City.

This is a straightforward guide that will benefit both beginners and seasoned filmmakers who are striving to close the gap between their vision and the final output.

You’ll be able to see this regardless of if you’re in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro because it is shown in ALL three!

And if you're keen on achieving the look even faster, check out our specially designed Asteroid City LUTs that are embedded into our Cinema Grade plugin:

excellent video. Wow! Superb instruction.

I’ve been waiting for you guys to finally include Davinci Resolve! I purchased your product back in 2021. But you didn’t have any resolve features. So glad you do now! Thank you so very much! Everyone I know is switching to Resolve!

Thank you so much for the tutorial. May I ask how to add a 2nd HSL Secondary for the orange part? Since the 1st HSL is used for the teal part.

Thanks for the video :) Interesting, it looks as if the colors are really "weird" at first glance, but they managed to keep skin tones "normal", between hue 20-30 most scenes.

Hey, thanks again for a great video, Denver. When I saw the trailer to this film I couldn't believe how exaggerated the colors looked. It's so distractingly orange that it almost hurt my eyes.

I watched Asteroid City in cinema. It looks a little bit less red in the saturation. Just a nuance but it looks much better in the silver screen then in the YouTube trailer.
