Should you just come out and tell the cops if you're carrying? You should, but be careful about it. NEVER say it quickly or reach towards it. Instead, keep your hands on the wheel the entire time, and say, "I have a permit and I'm currently carrying. What would you like me to do?" ALWAYS over communicate with the officer and never take your hands off the steering wheel without telling the cop what you're doing first. This is the best way to ensure your safety in this situation.

Outside of the very basic things, do NOT say anything EVER. You COULD ask "Can I help you, officer" or just greet them politely. If they don't ask anything else, don't say anything and even IF they ask, depending on your state, you DON'T need to answer that.

Simply responding "I don't answer questions" is good enough

I have been told by 2 cops not to tell them you have a gun. They told me say nothing about it, and say no if asked. Reason being they don't want to go through the time and hassle of checking it.

The first check point we went through after my GF went through after getting her CWP she blurted out to the officer " I got a gun". This poor big ole guy turned pale and stepped back. I looked him dead seriously in the eyes and told him I would not blame him if he shot her. Ice broken and he laughed. I got fussed at by her but told her he had every right to shoot her for that dumb statement.
