It took me a while to figure out what the point of this opening montage was. This scene shows the town's men going about their work, and the rest of the movie shows what the town's women are up to while the men are off at work.

What a great way to open the movie. This was surely recorded in a studio, but it somehow has that outdoor sound, with no walls. Excellent job!

I loved the movie. It was unique and eccentric. There were subtle things I didn't catch until I watched the second time, like the old ladies washing the cooler and taking out the trash at the end.

@FosterKid, I agree. I think it's the slow tempo, a capella signing, and baritone register. It's "haunting". Other versions suck -- too cheery, "light" or up-tempo.

A very good film, with perfect photography and a beautiful setting, I would watch it a thousand times and never get tired of it because it is so beautiful in the visual sense
That opening is perfect, that's what made me want to watch the movie

I didn't realize it at first but the main man singing is david coffin. He sings alot of sea shanties so if you wanna hear more from him check out his YouTube channel. It's his name.
