I remember Victor (Redding Fly Shop) tying McFllyfoam eggs at the San Mateo ISE Show in 1996. He was using the single tie on top method. I asked him for a bag of pink and one of white and went back to my booth and tied him a pink show-mouse with a white belly, feet, ears, tail, whiskers, etc. It flared and cut just like deer hair, so I loved it. I brought it back and gave to him and he had a time handing on to it. I also met Greg Conway, the McFF owner, and tied him a lot of flies with it.

I did in fact waste thread, mainly because thread is cheap and I have a bunch of it.

@hattrickster33 If you tie enough eggs you will learn that tying them on top of the hook shank with one strand of yarn will usually leave the hook visible on the under side. My eggs stay together and never fall apart like most eggs.

@jrushing3394 And even more in the middle because you can tie those two bits of yarn in together...you don't need to do them apart.

@479troutbum If you use any kind of GSP thread it doesn't matter whether you combine the two strands of yarn before tying them in or if you tie them in apart because you can apply as much tension as you want using that type of threat. With any regular uni thread I can see why the method you use would be more effective. Then again, these are just small details...

What did you use as far as materials go? What size hook?

i used mcfly foam and daiichi 1120 hook size 12.
