Víkingur Ólafsson - Cimarosa: Sonata No. 42 in D minor (Arr. by Víkingur Ólafsson)

On this new album Ólafsson presents some of his favourite Mozart keyboard works in the company of pieces by a selection of the composer’s contemporaries.

These contemporaries included C.P.E Bach, Haydn, Galuppi and Domenico Cimarosa, the composer of this particular track. “Perhaps all four provide a chance to calibrate the contemporary ear towards the prevailing ideas, styles and tastes of the times”, comments Ólafsson. “It is my hope that this particular context, a mix of the celebrated and the obscure, can slightly alter our psychological attunement, removing some of the baggage we all bring with us to Mozart’s music. This is in any case what I set out to do for myself: to approach even the best-known works of Mozart with the same freedom and childlike enthusiasm I felt upon discovering the rare and staggeringly lyrical works from the likes of Galuppi and Cimarosa.”

Vinkingul has become my absolute favorite pianist. His music is simple but so rich in tons and expressions! It feels like time stops when you hear his music! So good!

this is a genius interpretation .... I've never liked particularly this period and Cimarosa .... but this performance transports me, it makes this music so elegant and intelligent. Víkingur Ólafsson sheds a new light on pieces, making them outstanding, and I know no other pianist that reaches this level.

Vikingur Olafsson lives the music when he performs. It's like he is being guided by the composers themselves. Excellent musician! This was amazing!!

There are two things for me to remember this talented young pianist, his piano music, of course and his pair of thick glasses.

Pourquoi est-il fascinant là où tant d'autres sont banals voire ennuyants ? Le touché, le rythme, le phrasé...Génial ! Mon pianiste préféré dans cette génération.

A long afterglow-like music of a short but sad, innermost brilliant love.
Tears for love flow as a river.
The river contains all the scenery of the world.
And the river that became the sea incubate the wide world.
It is a love that transcends love,
Long long afterglow like waves on the

Deutsche Grammophon, when are you bringing him to a full USA tour? This is not fair to keep him away from his fans from this part of the globe!
