The Imperial City is absolutely beautiful! The Chinese captured many Vietnamese professionals such as architects, engineers, and designers whom worked on the Forbidden City. An Nguyen, the chief architect, was one of the most famous professionals captured who worked on the Forbidden City (this information was not something the Chinese wanted known, but the Brits uncovered this information after much research).

There is a tip: Before you eat any kind of soup in Vietnam, you should taste little spoon first. If the soup is suitable for your taste, you dont need to put lime, chilly or seasoning more . You dont need to season it all the time, some restaurant they make the soup perfectly and you can enjoy right after they bring the soup for you!

I and my best friend drove motobike from Da Nang to Hue city in 2019 under heavy rain. We went through a lot of scenery, from the great mountain of Hai Van to beautiful beaches and lovely rice fields and fishing villages. We wore raincoat while visiting Kinh Do Hue, that was crazy fun and we couldnt stop laughing. Although the weather was very bad and dangerous and we spent only 3 hours their, our the trip was very satisfied and it think it's one of the best trip that I had in my life. I'm planning to visit Hue again next months.

I'm glad you were able to visit Hue and top notch thumbs up for spending time in the Citadel. It's often overlooked but that's Hue. It's a very low key city and its people are known for their quiet and gentle demeanor but tough as nail belief and principle. I had a chance to visit Hue 18 years ago and it has two absolutely drop dead gorgeous high schools on Le Loi street. I got to see an amazing sight where hundreds of high school female students came out of the school gate dressed in ao dai on a special day I think. Hundreds of them came out riding their bicycles with their ao dai fluttering in the wind while boys were in their school uniform.

My fiancee and I didn't get to go to the Imperial City of Hue when we visited Vietnam, but we have seen many videos of it. However, your video is, hands down, the best travel vlog of the Imperial City I have seen. You two captured the age, majesty, and architecture of the place perfectly. It's a beautiful video. Thank you for sharing.

Side note: My fiancee is Vietnamese American. Bun thit nuong is never eaten with soy sauce. I am surprised that the restaurant had soy sauce. It's always eaten with nuoc mam pha -- a fish sauce mixture.

Hue and the Imperial City were definitely one of the highlights of my Vietnam trip 27 years ago, I can't believe that I haven't gone back. Hopefully over the next 5 years I start to revisit the places I visited on that trip. I certainly didn't spend $16 to enter but they obviously need the money for restoration work. Thanks for trip down memory lane.

Nice video capture of the citadel in Hue. Agree that it would take half a day to cover that place in details. It took us (with two little boys) a good 2-3 hours to see half of what you guys saw. As for the $8 entrance fee, let's put it into perspective that it costs €19.50 for Versailles Palace or €28.50 for both the Palace and the garden in Paris.

Awesome video guys! This made me miss Vietnam so much! Out of all the places we've traveled it is where we want to go back to the most. Thanks for sharing your travels! ♥

You guys showed WAY more of the Imperial City than most vloggers as they just run in and out. It's so beautiful there! But it saddens me that so much of it was bombed into oblivion during the Vietnam war when more bombs were dropped there than all of WWII. I hope they are able to recreate the city, but it won't have that old ancient look to it that makes it special (all the moss/lichen, worn-in, etc.). I wonder if your ticket included the ride in the golf carts around the city? I have a feeling it does.

From 1802 to 1945, Vietnam was ruled by the Nguyen Dynasty, which had its capital in the city of Hue. The Nguyen Dynasty was the last monarchy in Vietnamese history. Guards of the Nguyen Dynasty stationed in the imperial city of Hue had about 40, 000 people. The Guard force is again divided into three types. King Guards (the king’s subordinate who guarded the forbidden citadel), including 1 joint and 4 independent defenders. For a total of 143 years, the Nguyen Dynasty was a dynasty that marked many ups and downs in Vietnam history, especially the French invasion in the mid-19th century.

Loving that speed walk Ashley! And we are gutted that we missed this place! We spent a week in Hue playing music in bars and restaurants and then on our last day went to visit the imperial city… but it was closed! 😅
We will for sure return in the future!
Another great vlog guys! ✨

The gardens were spectacular! Is this location lightly touristed? I never saw another person! Beautiful video - so well done and professionally! You two are such a handsome, youthful couple; I’m very much enjoying your videos!

Thai Hoa Palace is the most important work in Hue Citadel and it is fortunately left. That place is located the throne of the emperor of Vietnam, I have seen it about 10 years ago. Currently being restored, not rebuilt. It is expected to be completed by 2025 because of its high complexity. very nostalgic and dignified

Dont forget to discover Bach Ma national park in Huế when you comeback. Bach Ma is a stunning mount in the whole central of Vietnam. Do Quyen waterfall in Bach Ma national park is a must see.
