Grażyna Bacewicz - Polish composer and violinist. She was born in a Polish - Lithuanian family with musical traditions. Her father and two brothers were also composers. Grażyna Bacewicz belonged to a large group of Polish composers from the interwar and post-war period working in the neoclassical style . However, she never gave in to compose a socialist realist piece . She owed her excellent workshop largely to her studies with Nadia Boulanger, which she skillfully used in her abundant and varied work.
As an educated and performing violinist, she has devoted special attention to music for the violin and other string instruments. She was the author of seven violin concertos , two cello concertos and a viola concert. She has also written seven string quartets , five sonatas for violin and piano, and two sonatas for solo violin.
At least some of these compositions, along with a few other chamber and symphonic works, compete to this day on concert stages with full success. In the history of music - at least in Poland - she is considered the first woman to become one of the outstanding composers.
