"Welfare" is a successful cost saving measure of state governments.
Do these guys have any idea how much worse off they (and everyone else) would be if there was no assistance for the poor?
There's a wise old saying, "Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it."

If you don’t want to pay taxes that’s fine. But if you are caught using the streets, sidewalks emergency services anything that is publicly funded, you should be charged $ every time you turn down a different street or walk down a sidewalk.

You can either help them or face the consequences that follows with having alot of desperete poor people. It is cheaper and safer to help than to ignore them.

Before the government instituted welfare, the community helped those in need. It worked. Was it perfect? Absolutely not, but it worked. There was a stigma against those that fell on hard times, which gave motivation for those people to get back on their feet.

Now that motivation is gone. There is no incentive to get off of government assistance. This causes waste and poor efficiency, not to mention the payroll for these governmental programs is astronomical.

I volunteer for a local, Christian based food pantry. It is not associated with the government at all, and because of this, we can ensure that 99.999% of all donations go straight to the people. We are MUCH more efficient, quicker to respond, and are not reliant on tax payers. This is the way it should be.

We all have an obligation to one another being humans beings. God forbod ypu ever fall on hard times. Why shouldn't you be taken care of after you paid all of those taxes through the years? Should there be no return on your investment?

He’s actually wrong about just one thing: we do have an obligation to help other people. But if we don’t it shouldn’t be the government that makes us

You should remove "to me" in your vocabulary in order to better assert your position is the objectively correct position

Oh, but we are. We must care for one another to hold on to our humanity. One day, YOU may need help. It is easy to become destitute in america and the world.

but we all live under a societal contract where by existing under it, we agree to help thy neighbor. if done correctly welfare helps everyone who needs it and charity helps only the people we sympathize with. in the united states at least, our welfare already neglects many of the poor, ill, or disabled. Charity has no shot at being better. All welfare needs is a policy to be passed for it to help people for years and years to come whereas charity needs constant organizing and constant promotion to be effective.
