first of all thank you for this video!!!! You are very professional and pleasant to listen to. So I have went all over the net to seek help for my mac mini 2013 quad core 2.6 to render files faster in premiere pro since its taking ages without color correction and with I dont even bother trying I would probably just take the files to a friend with a Windows monster to do it for me. My question is' since I cant upgrade my ram more then the 16GB it already has, what can I do ? Buy a new computer? would u recommend the i9 5k imac or a monster PC? I do need it to be portable thus I am leaning towards the Imac 5k. thanks again !

Thanks for the great reciew, It is great solution but this is based on old rx570 i expected to find similar edition with rx5700 why I should pay 500$ for 2 years old egpu while i expect the newer one would cost me the same. I hope soon they will release an updated version.

I got a Sonnet 550w TB3 eGPU box with a Gigabyte GTX 1080ti inside it from Bizon-Tech for my 2014 13inch MacBook Pro with TB2. The instructions with it enabled both devices to work together, it’s a little tricky but the email support provided throughout the entire process was super and I’m getting over 25fps playing X-Plane 11 on the highest settings depending on location which is really good as this is a very high demanding game. I can’t wait to try the box on a TB3 enabled laptop as I know currently using TB2 is losing upto 20 to 30% of it’s performance. The only thing is an external monitor has to be attached to the cards HDMI port to see the graphics acceleration on both screens together, the external monitor can be left on standby, just connected so I believe a dummy HDMI, Display Port or DVi dongle should do the trick. However, the external monitor does provide much better graphics than the MacBook’s screen.

Thanks for your video! Would you recommend the Sonnet RX 570 Puck for a MBP 13" Early 2015 (Intel Iris Graphics 6100, i5-5257U Broadwell, Thunderbolt 2) for occasional gaming (games from 2007-2012) using the Apple TB2 to TB2 adapter? I can get a used puck for around 500 USD. Thanks in advance!

I really hope Mac OS X can hurry up and get optimized for egpus. This sonnet device seems to be perfect for a small MacBook desk setup.

I want to see eGPU mobile GPU's.

I am going to be purchasing a GPD Win 3 (think UMPC) and don't mind the performance of a mobile 2060 for example, this requires hardly any space or power (compared to a desktop gpu) and would fit in a tiny model.

I want to experiment in doing this (desktop gpu but super under volted and underclocked) but there are no type C to PCIe that I can find. I would have to buy one of these full products.

Use the "Prefer external GPU" option

Starting with macOS Mojave 10.14, you can turn on "Prefer external GPU" in a specific app's Get Info panel in the Finder. This option lets the eGPU accelerate apps on any display connected to the Mac — including displays built in to iMac, iMac Pro, and MacBook Pro:

Quit the app if it's open.
Select the app in the Finder. Most apps are in your Applications folder. If you open the app from an alias or launcher, Control-click the app's icon and choose Show Original from the pop-up menu. Then select the original app.
Press Command-I to show the app's info window.
Select the checkbox next to Prefer external GPU.
Open the app to use it with the eGPU.

Just following up on this given the recent release of eGPU support for Mac. Have you uncovered any value to using an eGPU with a MBP?

Franklin, try to connect an external monitor to the egpu, move the Mac OS dock to the external monitor. This way the apps will use the egpu instead of the internal graphic card.

Thanks Frank for your video. I was in a confused state of mind whether to buy a puck or not for my 2015 Macbook pro which already has a 2GB graphics card. I am a Video DJ and i really thought that by adding a egpu wud enhance my performance . Surely will wait for apple to increase the gpu in forthcoming models.

Do you know if the RX60 model is worth it for gaming ? This seems to be the cheapest option for me since the only other eGPU recommended by Apple is the Blackmagic eGPU
I just like to play video games ocasionnaly on a maxed out 2019 13" mbp and i don't know if i'm ready to spend 600$ for ocasionnal gaming

So this would definitely work with a Mac mini late 2018 model right? Is this egpu built in the box? Just making sure before I buy one 😂.
