Ok, but hear me out on this Wonka midquel idea I came up with alongside my sister: Sweeten the Deal is a Wonka midquel that follows the three antagonists from Wonka, but now as the protagonists (mainly Slugworth). After they were released from jail they began to conspire ways to sully Wonka’s reputation. Slugworth starts spreading a rumor that Wonka has made a deal with the devil and that’s where he gets his magical abilities and fame. The public understandably demands proof, so Slugworth, the two other members of the chocolate cartel and their hired spies and journalists begin spying on Wonka in search of any dirt they can stretch into a bigger lie. Much to their surprise, what started as a petty scheme ended up being something much more serious as they discover that Wonka has, indeed, made a deal with the devil. The devil disguises himself as a man who is known as none other, than Joe Bucket, who captures people’s souls in the form of cocoa beans. The story also goes into Wonka’s descent into madness and how he started as a sweet boy with big dreams and slowly became an antisocial murderer with a penchant for drowning children in chocolate.
