I’m Chinese-Brazilian and lived in Macau. Something about this video made me feel... comforted and calm and full of wonder; almost like a zen at home type of feel. I have yet to visit Portugal. And I want to make this one destination visit.

I'm so happy that I got to go there in the early 2000s. We got a 2-h guided tour explaining all the symbolism, there were maybe 50 people in all the garden, nobody was walking up the well in the wrong direction, there were no lights in the tunnels, no crowds waiting to cross the lake, and the stepping stones were almost underwater. The whole effect was superb, and one could easily forget being a tourist and pretend at being an initiate.

fascinating to think that one of the factors that gave Portugal such a headstart in World trade in the medieval times were them not hunting down the dtemplars, but rather offering them asylum in exchange for their knowledge and skill.

I was just there yesterday. Interesting that YouTube just showed this video. No crowds at all...just peaceful beautiful place. The well reminds me of "baoli" step wells of India.
