Fed up after years of preaching to the people of Nineveh, #Jonah or #Prophet Yunus (on whom be peace) boarded a ship to get out of town and found himself suddenly alone in the great unknown. When we reflect on the story of Jonah, we learn important lessons about how to behave in this situation of uncertainty and difficulty that we find ourselves in now. Being thrust out of our routine provides the perfect opportunity to think about what we’re doing wrong and commit to changing our ways. And #dua or supplication to God is powerful; we must not despair of the help and mercy of God to rescue us from our distress, even if we’ve done wrong. Join Dr. Safiyyah Ally for part 2 in her series, Alone in the Great Unknown.

Subhaan-Allah, very nicely put.
Never give up hope, have hope in the Mercy of Allah.

Incidentally the expression used in the Quran: " In the belly of a whale, " has a meaning that has been lost over time.
At the time of the Quran, the phrase was well understood. It is actually a metaphorical/allegorical/ mutashaabiyat, verse which means, quite litterally; In a state of extreme sadness/ depression.
Once we know this, the whole story of Hazrat Yunis/ Jonah becomes apparent.

As usual, the Quran does not supply a comprehensive account of a prophet, and the full story can only be found in the Bible.
1. Jonah 1:1-3. Jonah, like all prophets, was an Israelite, and he refused God's command to preach to the Ninevites, the enemies of Israel who would one day destroy them.
2. Jonah 1:12. Jonah knew that the storm was God's wrath against him, so he told the sailors to cast him overboard. When they reluctantly did so, everything became calm.
3. Jonah 3:1-9. The Ninevites repented immediately in response to Jonah's preaching. This was a rebuke to Israel, to whom many more prophets had been sent.
4. Jonah 4:1-4. Jonah was angered that God spared Ninevah, but God revealed that he is more compassionate and merciful than man and was concerned for all nations.
5. Jonah 2:2. Jonah's miraculous preservation in the fish foreshadowed Jesus, who would also be buried (Matthew 12:40), but raised to a new life to declare the way of salvation to all nations.

I think the starting point must begin with Bible, not the Quran, The Bible gives us a very different picture of the events. 1st Jonah fled from the presence of YHWH because he did not want to go to Niniveh. 2nd Jonah was displeased because YHWH had not destroyed the Ninevites because of their wickedness.. I find it disturbing that many Muslims try to turn all the prophets into Muslims and point to Mohammed.

The question is how does Jesus fulfill the sign of Jonah, Last time I was at the Dawah Center \, I was asked that question.

Impressive powerful presentation but sadly it is not the story in the 40th book of the Bible - Jonah. He is one of the 18 Prophets in the Bible. He was also known as cantankerous Jonah. He will not obey God's order to go to Ninevah to preach. Instead he went in the opposite direction to Tarshish/Spain. He sailed from Jaffa in a pagans' ship. God ordered a great storm. Jonah went down into the ship to sleep! The pagan Captain got him to the deck to pray. He revealed his identity and motive. He was a Hebrew and he worshiped Lord God but was running away from him. Pagan sailors were terrified. Jonah was thrown into the sea. The storm stopped. Pagans worshiped Jonah's God. In Scene 2: Jonah was engulfed in the belly of the giant fish where he prayed to repent and the merciful God saved him. And he went to Ninevah to preach and to his surprise people listened to the message and repented and they were saved by God. In Scene 3 : Jonah was very displeased by God's mercy and he fell into a rage and wanted to die! God tamed him and there is a happy ending. Safiyyah's link to Covid is a very good allegory of this complex character of Jonah and his cantankerous behaviour.

I was very disappointed when I saw Jonah’s destroyed grave and tomb from a distance in Ninewa. It was detonated by ISIS
