We are still in the T Model Ford version of space travel, space factories will really come into there own when they are built using materials from asteroids and not lifting them from the Earth.

We've been 3D printing viable tissue and organ structures in a near weightless environment here on Earth for quite some time... in chambers filled with amniotic fluid. Every pregnant woman has just such a project forming inside as we speak. We should be (and are) developing technology that artificially replicates the tissue suspension process as outlined by human physiology. Also, the particulate count in space will be exactly the same as the clean room it was assembled in... on Earth.

Personally I want to build some crafts that can mask the attraction of the vessel's electrons to the nuclei of the atoms of the planet, in essence removing the affects of gravitation toward the planet... Then I want to load it with equipment for a collapsible and expandable workshop/shelter to wrap around an asteroid so I cal untill my induction forge and magnetic backed crucible to smelt ores from asteroids and manufacture my our structural materials to build a larger interstellar craft or a fleet thereof...

You talk of $/kg cost, but what's the CO2/kg cost (carbon footprint)?
What's the true carbon footprint, ie. also including the carbon released in the manufacturing and supply of fuel, not just the burning of it and the manufacturing of all the non-reusable parts used in getting everything to space and back.

Once space mining can take place and be processed in space to be either used in space or brought down to Earth, then I see this as a natural progression.
