A famous reel from the Sligo tradition of great fiddle players, most notably recorded by the legendary Michael Coleman in 1922, The Boys of the Lough is played here by Sligo accordion player Daithí Gormley. He gives his interpretation of the tune, and tells the story of how it came to be recorded by Coleman, a seminal recording artist who emigrated from Ireland to the United States at the start of the 20th century and was recorded extensively on gramophone.
The Connacht Fleadh takes place in Sligo, Ireland, June 20th - July 3rd and features a host of traditional Irish music concerts, recitals, lectures, competitions and more.

Video produced by Omedia for the Connacht Fleadh at Teach Cheoil Morrison, Riverstown, Co. Sligo. Filmed by Micheál Ó Domhnaill with research by Daithí Gormley.
