What's behind the UK's Christmas love affair with pantomime – BBC News

The festive season is upon us, and in the theatre world that means one thing – time for the humble pantomime to take centre stage.

While it may not be the most highbrow form of entertainment, it is for many the gateway into theatre – and what’s more, it is a big business.

Pre-pandemic, three million panto tickets were sold each year in the UK, and Glasgow has a special affection for it.

Historically, if a crowd in the Scottish city did not enjoy a performance, they would be the first to let the act know about it, as the BBC’s The Travel Show has been finding out.

Pantos are great fun! Tbh, though, like dogs, pantos aren’t just for Christmas. There is a year-round pantomime in the Houses of Parliament: it’s a variation of that old classic, ‘Dick Whittington’ called ‘Dickheads Witteringon’! 😏 🐈‍⬛ 🐀

The UK is a good place to keep "panto." Let's hope it never spreads.

Pantomime is low tier garbage.
"Oh no it isn't."
"Yes it is."
"Oh no it isn't."
"He's behind you".

Generally what is behind pantomime is best not mentioned on public forums.

Cold and long winter nights. We all need a change from the BBC repeats, rehash and regurgitation! Go out, have fun and watch a pantomime instead of the BBC dross!

This vid looks like a desperate advert for the theater.
Since pantomime is financially secure
lets hope our taxes don't have to subsidise it.

On December 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with a girl from the Zaporozhye region, Alexandra Titarenko, as part of the annual Christmas Tree of Wishes campaign. She wants to visit Crimea and visit the House of Santa Claus. In addition to Alexandra Titarenko, the girl Agata from the Kurgan region, who wants to see the Northern lights and ride reindeer, as well as six-year-old David Shmelev from Stavropol, told Putin their wishes. He wants to visit the Military Academy of the Armed Forces.

To obtain financial freedom, one must either be a business owner, an investor or both, generating passive income, particularly on a monthly basis.
