About me:
I have spent my career focused on all forms of data. I have focused on developing algorithms to detect fraud, reduce patient readmission and redesign insurance provider policy to help reduce the overall cost of healthcare. I have also helped develop analytics for marketing and IT operations in order to optimize limited resources such as employees and budget. I privately consults on data science and engineering problems both solo as well as with a company called Acheron Analytics. I have experience both working hands-on with technical problems as well as helping leadership teams develop strategies to maximize their data.

I thought this was a solid video, yet I am unsure if the last part was a joke. I truly believe that one can use YouTube to help record and track one's own progress and even use it as a form of accountability to improve as a programmer, get better at coding interviews, review their own "end-to-end projects, " etc. Even if your channel is small, when you get into the mindset of teaching, this also helps to force you to understand a given topic/material.

The last advice (not the YouTube one) is gold!

I've just come up with the ultimate code; SET BUGS OFF, DO WHAT I'M THINKING, ON ERROR RESUME THIS YOUTUBE CHANNEL... Another excellent video SDG.

Hi Benjamin,
Can you please make a video regarding how "competitive programming" helps in cracking FAANG companies and how should we start our "competitive programming" journey with useful resources.
Thanks in advance

Just want you to know that this video came into my recommended literally THE SECOND after I catastrophically bombed a data engineering interview and logged on to YouTube to watch therapeutic cat videos.

Another great video! HR can now screen out all programmers with YouTube channels 😅 Also low code / no code development environments will eliminate all these issues and "bring back the magic". HR application resume screening algorithm can now just look for "citizen developer" applicants.😀 🙄

I'm working at a company that built an ETL database (wouldn't even call it a data warehouse) and the ETL references tables that are generated from a different set of ETL processes all of which have zero documentation on what they're supposed to provide. The sources also use views where within those views, multiple other views are references and some go 5 levels of views deep. It sucks being the successor to an inexperienced data programmer 🤢🤮

Hey Ben, could you do a video on going from software engineer -> Data engineer, if you already have years of experience programming software will it help even tho you dont have data experience and will projects and maybe certs be enough to break in to the field?

The golden rule. Never trust a programmer with a youtube channel. lol

The author has a knack of clear thinking.
Summary of his points: 1. Say yes to all requests. 2. over-engineering things. 3. not appreciate standards 4. chase buzz words and/or every latest tech trend.
Based on my experiences, I agree with every point!

Loved the video data guy sensei.
I myself am a junior data engineer from france and considering mooving to the US.
I was wondering if you could make another video to talk about the trend of data engineering in the US, and if you think the offer will catch up with the demand in the next few years meaning the salaries will go down a little bit?
Why is there such a data guys shortage??

Thank you!

Unrelated but what if you move out of Seattle? Will you still be the Seattle Data Guy, or will it change as you move on?

Inexperienced programmers will use different logics and maths for same sort of daily tasks.

Hi Benjamin, if you have never done competitive coding then how did you teach yourself enough to crack interviews with tech giants. Also it would be great if you could create a video on your transition to freelancing from maang companies. Why you took that decision and all.

I'm pretty sure I posted a comment here. Was it that bad that it needed to be deleted?

Oh, oh! It sounds as though Seattle Data Guy is chasing the trend of being a FAANG YouTuber. Ww better call for a code review ASAP. < /sarcasm >
