This is a video to clear up the confusion behind bloom in Blender 4.2. We now have to use the compositor in order to make the bloom effect work however that doesn't mean its not real time as we can change the viewport settings to view the composition. It also has the advantage that it works in Cycles and Eevee

To speed up your viewport with compositor effects, make sure you turn on the GPU compostior in Render > Preformance > Compostior

Briefly, clearly, to the point, without water! Everyone should do such tutorials.
Thank you very much.

Wow! Running compositor effects in the viewport in real time is amazing stuff. Way to go team Blender.

It's still a lot of hassle... then just a tick box... appreciate you doing this vid of course, but I'm personally still not happy with this change.

Changed my mind i like it. the fact it is set once and then cycles also uses it makes it a good decision.

Pretty cool follow up on the "Where is Bloom in Blender" vid. Going to update my default scene 👍🏻

Thank you! It works adding glare node in the compositing mode... too! (Active from viewport shading the compositor; always).

Thank you so much! I'm actually part of your class in Udemy and got very confused as to where to find bloom, screen space reflection and ambient occlusion.

Hello Grant, thanks for the Video, are you happy that the old Bloom was taken out of Blender and now has to be edited via the Compositor? The old Bloom was much better and, in my Opinion and I'm certainly not alone in my Opinion, should be firmly integrated into Blender again like in the previous Versions.

uhm. how do you get the gloom effect now on something which is part of the background? Like stars in a galaxy background for example?

Mr. Grant, may I request to create 3dcoat texturing process? Or blender to 3dcoat for beginner tutorial? Thank you

Hopefully they put it back in the next version

is there a difference between the emission from the BSDF and the emission node by itself? would the bloom/fog glow work the same?

This seems like a step back. I've only got a single default cube in my scene and this noticeably drops framerame whilst it's on and I have an RTX2070. This never happened with the old bloom.

Edit* Ok it seems like fog glow is the culprit, set the node to bloom and it runs normal. Apparently fog glow runs on the CPU not the GPU.

Second Edit* It's not fog glow that was the problem it's that the performance for compostitor effects are set to CPU by default and you need to set it to GPU. Render tab > Performance > Compositor

any idea how to script/batch cook individual animation frames? Blender Animation Render exports individual frames, so i'd like to bloom them all :)
