Antoine Fadavi performing 'River Runs Deep' by Lauren Faith

I’m thrilled to finally release a new acoustic drum video! This one is on British singer Lauren Faith’s latest single “River Runs Deep”. I love how that song leaves enough space for the drums to shine. I wanted to keep my drum part clean, so I could focus on getting the best sound and feel out of the drums.

– EQUIPMENT

I’d like to thank my friends over at Gretsch Drums, TRX Cymbals, Gibraltar Hardware, Vic Firth drumsticks, Remo drumheads and Cympad cymbal washers for their continued support over the past few years.

► Drums

I’m using my beloved Gretsch Brooklyn drum set in Black Marine Pearl finish for this new series of videos. Originally, it was a prototype kit that Gretsch made to display at the Hollywood Drum Show in 2017. They then had it on display at their Los Angeles showroom for artists to try out– I stumbled upon it one time and absolutely fell in love. I came back home with it, and have been taking great care of it ever since. It sounds unbelievable in person, and on recording. Here are the sizes...

► Cymbals

I spent a few hours at the TRX Cymbals office a couple months ago, trying out a variety of cymbals. It was a great experience! I wanted a set of cymbals that was shimmery and explosive, reminiscing of 90’s rock music, so I mix-and-matched cymbals from series on the brighter spectrum, such as X, ALT, BRT, and MDM. I didn’t mix the overhead, hi-hat and ride mics very heavily, so the cymbal sounds you hear in this video are very genuine. Here they are, from left to right, drummer's perspective…

► Drumsticks

I’ve been using the Vic Firth Vinnie Colaiuta Signature drumsticks for the past few months. They’re incredible. I like the long taper and bold tear drop tip, it makes for a very delicate sound on cymbals, round punch on drums, and they are thick enough to allow for a powerful sound when you want to go all in!

► Drumheads

For this session, I chose to use fairly heavy Remo heads, to allow for a nice punch and short decay. I tuned the batter heads low and the resonant heads high. This allows for a bold, low tone while keeping the sound of the drum pretty open. I also used two KickPro pillows in the bass drum, one on the batter head and one on the resonant head.
