This is part 1 of a 3-part series:
Part 1: Entities - see resources below.

Coming soon....
Part 2: Forms and Views
Part 3: Charts and Dashboards

This is a great opportunity to learn how to reuse standard entitles and fields, and how to create your own custom scenarios in a snap!

Running into issues migrating two lists from SharePoint to CDS - Donors and Donations. Donation list includes a Lookup field that references a name in the Donors list. I created both the Donors and Donations list as entities in CDS. Since the Get Data migration from a CSV extract of my SharePoint list imported the "lookup" field "Donor" in the Donation list as a simple text field, I proceeded to map each record to a new lookup field DonorLU in CDS (very tedious I might add as most mass copy/paste commands in Excel do not update cell value completely). I proceeded to create a gallery to list all of the Donations stored in CDS. Everything could be displayed fine except for, you guessed it, the lookup fields. Even choice fields worked fine. When I attempt to force the entity field name into a Gallery or Dropdown, I am allowed to select the Lookup field but it then reverts to the text field. Pre-defined CDS lookup fields (e.g. CreatedBy) resolve perfectly fine. So...why won't custom Lookup fields in CDS entities resolve?

I'm loving this, but how business 'ready' is all this? for example I'm conscious that the PowerBI connector is in preview - to be honest I wasn't that successful with it. One thought is that we would probably want to have a Dev and Production environment, but I'm not at all sure how you would go about that and how you would move between the two in a CDS-App world.

I am running into an issue with my Business Rule however. I have a Date field calculating a date like I then want to change a Status field if the Expiration date is greater than or equal to TODAY. is the TODAY function not available in the Business Rule setup?

Powerapps would not import around 26min point. When I tired to import to the campus entity it asked me for 4 mandatory fields marked with an asterix.
Cr615_CampusIdCr615_NameOwen ridState code
But it only asked for 2 campusname and website in the worked example

I then tried to import after putting Campus Name to all mandatory fields and it produced an import error
Load to common data service failed
I was starting to get excited about this. :(

I also quitted this exercise on minute 33:14, because had the same problem with "a setup policy prevents you from using this feature..." !!!! Sometimes Microsoft lets you learn more about your ability to be patient than to get things done! Frustrating Power Apps. Wouldnt it be better to get back to good old MS Access??? And Access Apps?

Another question - I'm using a 'trial version' CDS-Apps database. Is this going to limit me in any way?

Is the entity real-time? Say if I updates the excel, how soon will it reflect in the entity refering to this Onedrive file?

I see so much potential here but price is a concern for many clients. There's also a lot of complexity around what is and is not in your plan. I don't work with huge corporations and it's extremely hard for small businesses who have been using PDF's or Word to make this move or understand what they need. I have tried to explain all the options of a plan and I see eyes glaze over. You show creating an Environment which seems to me to be pretty important for security and data, but unless you have a 'certain' Plan you can't do it. There are several plans with several options. I think Microsoft is onto something great here.
But is it for Fortune 500 companies or can small to medium sized businesses use this where every dollar counts? I hope Microsoft simplifies this and provides learning that allows one to go from one place to the next with understanding. There are times when I think it is harder to figure out what plans and options there are than it is working with the technology. Again hats off to Microsoft for a great idea and product, just make this easier, simplify please
