The $20 crayons seemed like a half step between crayons and oil pastels.

I feel like oil pastels are just artist grade crayons...

I used to despise crayons as a kid and now I love using them combined with oil pastels on collage. 🖍
They pick up texture brilliantly and work well over oil pastels for a bit more detail. They’re also great for loose sketching. Not really your style I know but they’ve featured a surprising amount in my a-level art portfolio.

I think that’s why coloring book pages for kids use textured paper. It catches the crumbles.

Crayon art always looks so childish and cute, i kinda miss when i used to sketch with colored pencils. I should definitely get back into doing that more

The Japanese crayons really reminds me of what they used for notes on blues clues

The Japanese ones look like the could be a good altetative to pastels (for me)! I have sensory issues with pastels but adore the style of them so this looks like it could be a nice in between! :)

I saw another artist scrape off the waxy stuff off the top and it made the colours so lovely and flat!

Bluetiful was in a naming contest, Crayola does that every once in a while.

Japan makes everything look fancy and pretty.

The Japanese one is so smooth and vivid. I actually like that more however I will say Crayolas waxy texture works really great when trying to get that glossy laminated look. After you finish coloring and you scrape away the top layer it looks fantastic. I'd use both brands but I'd probably use the Japanese brand more

Fun fact about the color "Bluetiful": I think its the first blue crayola has added in a long time! They had a poll for people to vote on the name for the new color. They had a prize for whoever won the vote, it was really cool
