I grew up on that beach. Us locals know what time to swim and surf. But ya, seal island is only a kilometer or two away. Great whites feed on the seals and the occasional human hahaha.

The only advantage about being in the water when that siren goes off is that no one will notice you PEEING YOUR PANTS FROM THE TERROR FROM THAT SIREN. Dang, they don't play.

I live in Cape Town and usually they only use the shark siren for something other than a shark

The day of my birthday (the year I turned 13) we were swimming and the alarms got called. I felt something against my leg, but ignored it. When we all got out, the shark started eating birds, right where I was swimming. The thought of it being right next to me and not attacking gave me peace, yet I'm still terrified. 😭

Man! I remember when I went to camp called Froggy Pond in Simon's Town. We were at the beach and a couple of us swam out to this rock that was a bit out and people on the shore started freaking out. Turns out there was a shark circling the rock. We were stuck out there for a few hours till they got someone to come out in this rubber duck raft and rescue us.

Honestly I too live in South Africa and it is wild I always go surfing in Muizenburg if you ever ask someone about that beach they will say it’s surfers corner because there is a lot of surfers there❤

my dad was born and raised in Australia and sometimes when he would go to the beach, he would have to evacuate cause there was great white sharks in the water

Out of all the times I've been to muizenberg beach I've never heard them use the sirin before and I've been there frequently during the summer time as it's one of the best places to cool off and eat during the summer time
