Mother in China reunites with missing son after 32-year search

Li Jingzhi spent more than three decades searching for her son, who went missing as a toddler in central China’s Shaanxi province. She travelled to nearly every Chinese province, following every lead that never panned out until the spring of 2020, when DNA technology confirmed that a man in Chengdu was Li's missing son, Jiajia. After being reunited with her son in a nationally televised event, Li became a high-profile advocate for helping families in China find their missing children. Recounting her long search, Li said she never lost hope. Her son, Jiajia, meanwhile, spoke out for the first time about his years growing up with his foster parents and how reuniting with his birth parents helped him to understand that he was not abandoned.

I can't imagine what this boy must be feeling. From feeling abandoned and hatred then realizing that your mother not only never abandoned you but kept searching for you for THIRTY TWO years she loves you THAT much. The reunion of mother and son is so beautiful.

Not exact quote, but when she said (basically) “I had the abilities as mother to raise a child, but that was robbed of me” that was very heart breaking… it’s not easy and at times a lot of mums ‘regret’ it (not actually, just angry/extreme emotional words), but they always want to come back to their kid(s) again. She was prepared/ready and she was (mostly I hope) happy raising him but all of a sudden he was gone.. 😢

For those who wonder where the biological father is (the red shirt guy @ 4:17), the biological parents were divorced several years after the kidnap. The father wanted to put it behind and try for another kid, but the mother refuse to give up the search. It's definitely a tragic situation for the family. If it wasn't the kidnap, they probably would still be a happy family of three. That's why I strongly believe China really should increase the penalty for kidnapping and children trafficking.

When I lost my cat for a month, i couldn’t sleep, eat properly, always anxious and cry myself to sleep. When I found her it was the best day of my life. Now, imagine a mother losing her child for 32 years!!!! It must have been a million times if not infinitely worse! I can see her genuine happiness but also felt her resentments for not being able to raise her child. They were both robbed. But at least they got each other back. I’m really happy for both of them!

I remember seeing this lady on a show dedicated to spreading information on children trafficking a few years ago. That day she did not find her son, but I remembered her for being soooo eloquent and having a unique grace in spite of her loss. So happy she found him now. 👍👍👏👏
