Neumann KH310 vs KH310 & KH750DSP Stereo & REW room correction vs Auratone in a living room studio

In this video I demonstrate my finalized monitoring system in my living room studio.

I did the room correction measurement with REW and a calibrated mic XREF20 from Sonarworks.

For the recording of this comparison I used a matched pair of small condenser mics in a ORTF setup, LCT 040 from Lewitt.

Please listen with studio headphones.

At the end of this video you'll see a couple of photos with dimension in metrics so you can get a perspective of the room, treatments and acoustics.

I did the room correction measurement with REW and a calibrated mic XREF20 from Sonarworks.

Then I built the correction curve manually using the neumann.control app to programm the KH705 DSP

Neumann won't let you measure and control a subwoofer stereo setup. Also this MA1 system is working like a best buy surround receiver setup so my grandmother can do it.

In result you as an professionell have no control. The only way doing it in a proper way is using REW for measurement and then build up the correction curve manually by try and error.

Using the Neumann control app for this procedure has another huge failure that Neumann keeps resisting to fix You can't control a stereo sub setup neither.

But there is an workaround, you have to set up two individual studio presets and put manually all the parameters by finger on your iPad - yes manually because this crappy app can't even copy and paste between presets and you can't type values into fields you have to use your fingertips.

I had a lot of discussions with Neumann but I gave it up they just don't care stupidity or arrogance probably both.

This video is definitely gold. These monitors called my attention when people started complaining about they being "too flat" lol. It's just amazing how they translate compared to the track file. Absolutely brilliant 🙌🏼

This is how ALL sound demos should be, Well played sir! 👌👌👌

the punchiness and mids on those KH310 + KH750 combo is sooo nice.

Wow your studio really is an inspiration. Of course I've seen a lot of big studios that sadly aren't achieveable, but your studio is on a scale that is totally possible to do. Thank you for this video!

God damn the more I look into Neumann the more I’m leaning into getting a pair

The room corrected Neumann's sound so good compared to the reference track it beggars belief, the performance is just incredible.

wow...never been a fan of room correction but this is very impressive

Good video - Well done. That is a powerful and fine speakers system. I like the fact that you use them so nearfiled. That really minimizes the effects of room reflections. (I have 310's, 120's with a 750 and 150's).

Great vid - thanks. This is one hell of a setup! The trapping is spectacular as well as the Neumann system. Building a new studio from the ground up and plan to build around this same setup so really interesting to see. :)

I've been looking at getting KH310 with 2 x Sub KH750's and the M1A mic for room correction, exactly what I needed to see, great review... I want to do my final mix / master on such a system as well as general high quality music listening for pleasure... Have also looked at Adam S3V and 2 x Sub 10 but a lot have advised me go with KH310 and dual KH750.

Since version 1.2.0 (27/May/2021) dual sub alignment in one setup is possible with Neumann MA1.

Hi! SPOT ON the sound of the KH310 solo! I had the KH310 and tried to get used to them but they were too flat and boring for my ear. They sounded better paired with thee KH750DSP. I sold mine after 1 1/2 year. I bought the Genelec 8340 and GLM auto calibration kit. I'm so happy with the sound in the studio now. I have a small room and I guess the 310 was little big for my space. Still the Genelec 8340 sounds deeper and much more clear and they are smaller than the 310.

Wow, very telling test. You've given me the idea to do something similar with my genelecs.

Literally everything about your set up is what I've been wanting for a few months. 310s with a pair of auratones. Was gonna get the 310s without the subs bc I didn't think I'd needed the sub and would prefer not to add the extra cross over and then having to phase align the satellites with the sub...I thought the 310s alone would be sufficient and if not I'd add only one sub. But these perform so well with the added DSP and the lowend gets really tight and controlled. I can hear every reverb begin and end.

What kind of sound treatment are you using? I have never seen cylinders of sound treatment being used like that. Could you post info about that? Why did you place your cloud so low and why did you set up everything on the short wall?

Thanks for this video :) - funny to listen to the 310 Version through some 310's and having an instant familiar feeling :D - will add the 750 soon as well

The thing with Neumanns are that they are not as "hyped" as some others like ATC, Barefoot (Neumann actually used the "magic" mid dome from ATC and decided to ditch it). That's great because the price is not hyped too. The truth, neutral sounding monitors, once you get the mix good on them it will translate on other systems. Yes, FLAT is good, seems like kids nowadays want HI-FI speakers in their studios. Nonsense...

at 5:19 I thought you 7 x 5 = 35 cylinder bass traps behind the speaker instead of it being a separate room lol! I'm thinking of getting the 310s and then an upgrade path would be one sub then two subs!

Did the height of the sub give you additional acoustic problems compared to placing it on the floor? I know Neumann recommends floor placement 1/3rd or 1/4th width of the room, maybe you used these guidelines just floor to ceiling? What about isolation between the sub and speaker, did that have any importance? and what exact material do you have in between them, Sorbothane? I asked Neumann regarding placement of stereo subs and isolation between them when placed on top of each other, but they don’t seem to be in a rush with an answer 🤷🏼‍♂️

Thanks 😊
