Being a product of Type 1 diabetic parents and now progressing from type 2 to type 1 right now, my goto to fix for aa hypo is a tube of cake icing gel. They are tiny tubes, need no refrigeration, can be left all over the house, car, office, etc. Shelf stable and as close to 100% sugar as you can get. Giving orange juice or liquids to someone deep in to a hypo can be a choking issue if they are even able to swallow at all. A squeeze of the cake icing tube into the mouth is adsorbed almost immediately even if not swallowed. Usually a recovery in less than 5 minutes.

I've experienced hypos, the worst was when I passed out in the middle of the night. Fortunately I was able to alert my husband who had to shake me awake to give me some juice. It was scary. Now I always carry with me glucose tablets and tiny boxes of juice just in case.. Thanks for the tips Tom.. Stay healthy. Take care. 🙏

Thank you Tom, Yes severe lows are scary, I have had a few, once crawled my way to the fridge for orange juice and laying on floor to wait till Bg came up, that really scared me. I also remember standing in front of a candy stand trying to pick something, but my brain wouldn’t work to make the choice!! Anything at that point would have worked. Freestyle has helped a lot with seeing the lows coming. Have a good day.

Thank you! So I'm not diagnosed as diabetic but I have had hypo symptoms since I was a teenager. Now I'm 72 and a bit overweight. 124lbs. Should be 113. Since it's been impossible to lose weight and I struggle w sugar cravings in stretches I decided to get a CGM as guidance in what is not good for me to eat. So 2 days ago I started a Dexcom. Pretty much getting beeps about low glucose. As low as 52 mg/do. I'm gonna see an endocrinologist as soon as possible but thanks for mentioning the Dextros packets. I'm gonna go get some now.

My worst was about 20 years ago. I woke up alone in my apartment so low that I couldn't walk. I dragged myself to the kitchen with my arms and managed to pick my self up to the cabinet to get the sugar.

I'm 14 years old and i have been diagnosed with t1d when I was 6 years old and ever since i started using rapid acting insulin Apidra and Long acting insulin lantus... 4 days ago i went on a trip with my family and i experienced way too many hypos and the worst thing was that the 15-15 rule didn't work and because i didn't have time or energy to check my blood sugar, i just had to find a way to survive. But i knew for sure that my glucose was definitely below 40 mg/dl and even the sugar candy didn't work... I ate 5 glucose tabs but the glucose was going down instead of going high... My uncle and mom saved me, thankfully.
And that day i took 15 units of fast acting instead of long acting!
Please don't ever do something like me guys!

Hi Tom. Very good explanation. In addition, as type 1 for nearly 40 years, I have found that very hot weather effects me greatly. It is 36C at present here in London, 29C at midnight. LO reading on my Libre at 6am. Did manage to get up and treat hypo, over compensated sugar as you don’t know what your doing!
This is caused be heat triggering your body to absorb insulin much faster than usual, I am told by my diabetic clinic.

I know the feeling well. I have m&ms stashes all over my house. Called the medics who checked my sugar it was the lowest it’s ever been at 28.. they said usually when that low the patient has passed out. They proceeded to give me a shot in my arm vein what looked like60 units of glucose, that snapped me out of it almost immediately.. Terrible feeling one feels like eating the world when it happens..

Did you make a video when it is high? I literally just found your channel and right now it being too high is my issue.

can your vision go blurry in just one eye? Because this happened to me today and once i had some carbohydrate snack and a glass of orange juice my vision cleared up completely an hour later.

It is sad that a Gvoke(glucagon) prescription is not the standard of practice as it is the standard of care.

I eat everything in front of me, too! hehe
Once I had a case of severe hipo, I called my "3D dream", because for me everything that was happening it was in my dream... latter that day I wake up in the hospital and understood that all that things were really happening.... "lol"
