Do the airports respect you expensive bike?

i was flying from Thessaloniki GR to Paphos CY for a race, and I saw how the workers of the fraport Thessaloniki Airport were thronging our bike bags in the aircraft. I was very sad. but at least the bike wasn't broken. just the bike bag had some broken plastics.

Do the airports respect your expensive bike? Short answer: No. Longer answer, I worked for an airline in my youth. I loaded many tons of luggage. Gentle and careful are not part of the process at all. Luggage handlers grab the closest thing to their hand and shove it anywhere it'll fit. Having said that, the handlers in this video were much more careful than I would have expected.
