So inflation is at 5.8% but heating fuel is up 30-50%? Food has gone up about 25%. Gas has doubled. So maybe the official inflation numbers are a bit skewed?

Why are prices going up and corporations paying less. Only fans is the only answer.

A goodly part of inflation is price-gouging. Gas, pharma, food co's are raking it in as they take advantage of the recent dynamics in supply/demand imbalances caused by the very strong economic turnaround.

Tell me about it, gas went up .22 cents overnight and I'm going to have to cut off the heat in my dodge neon. Love being a beloved senior living out of my car. Wtgb.

It's freezing in Florida and the place I can afford to rent, working full time with multiple degrees, has no heat, no a/c, no hot water and the windows are falling out of the frames or don't close all the way. Good thing it's only $698 more per month than the national average to afford a place to live here🤣 Florida is headed for a massive worker shortage in the coming years at this rate since we can't afford to live here anymore.

A massive amount of plants and factories shut down in 2019. This shrinkage of industry led to formation of "surpluses" of energy, as per usual. The price on energy collapsed (see the charts from the beginning of 2020). Then another, even more massive shrinkage of industry followed (just like in 2019, it was happening because of relative overproduction; more commodities had been produced than can find payable demand, the purchasing power of working people globally is confined within incredibly narrow limits). The price on energy collapsed again. This led to cuts in extraction and physical destruction of "surpluses" (burning gas, spilling of oil, etc.). And this situation continues to this day. Industry keeps shrinking. "Surpluses" of energy keep piling up. In order to compensate for the losses and maximum profits, corporations are raising the price on heating, electricity, petrol etc, shifting the weight of their crisis onto the common folk.

As a result of many factors, including the failure of the power grid in recent harsh winters, Texas electricity rates have soared. A lot of areas here do not have gas, so you're forced to heat with electricity which is far more expensive. I live in a small condo and paid a 562 dollar electricity bill last month (Late January). That is a full third of what my rent costs. That is what I paid for my first car. The underlying problem with inflation is that no one's income is even coming close to keeping up. I'm a single divorced elderly man and if this keeps up I'm going to have to go live in the woods somewhere.

Heating 101: Only open the heating vents in the rooms that are being used will save lots of heating costs.

These price-rises are nothing compared to the rises we see in Europe...
