We grew up in an "ok" kind of household. Not poor, but definitely not well-off either that we could splurge on things, especially food. But my dad kept on trying to feed us things he heard were good or he thinks we like. I asked him why and he said, "I want you to grow knowing things. If other people are talking about food and you don't know what it is, that would be sad." It was so touching that I cried. In his own way, he was teaching us that we shouldn't feel inferior to those who have more than us, because we also ate the same things. I❤U, dad~

Edit:
My dad worked as a janitor in a small building as well as the market behind it. That's why I didn't want him to spend too much on our food. I knew how hard he worked to earn his meager keep. Our house was small but we didn't pay rent. He worked until his 70s and only stopped when his body couldn't take the added stress from working 2 jobs. 😊 He did his best for us and in my opinion, he was the best dad I could ever ask for. And you know why I say he's the best? Because even if we don't share a drop of blood---he's married to my aunt who raised us when my father passed away a year after I was born---he loved us as his own. My love and respect for my dad is beyond words.... He deserves nothing less. I wish I could hug him now and tell him again how grateful I am that he was my dad. ❤

The only thing that I will be eating in fine dining is my wallet

Yes!! Same with me. A great meal experience over buying anything else these days. The best part of traveling is going out to that one fine dining experience that transforms your palate 🤤

You're exactly right about Disney Land! I like to splurge on food, especially when I'm sharing it with others. I can understand how some would rather save a little money on food by using cheaper options, but the quality of the ingredients can really elevate a simple dish. Most would be surprised at the difference in using Irish butter vs generic grocery store butter makes on a simple buttered roll or in cookies.

I actually love to splurge on either gifts or good food! To me, making other people happy and making my stomach happy are my two greatest joys in this world, so being able to splurge on these things is soooo worth it!

I'm a broke uni student but I went fine dining once (there was a special sale at a restaurant and my friend invited me). It was the best food I've ever had and one hell of an experience. Definitely will do again once I have more spare income lol.

I had a phase where I thought fine dining was a lifestyle then I hit a point in my life where I just look at all of it and it's just freakin' food. That quarter pounder from McD is hitting the spot more than that $500 meal I had but I guess food is whatever makes you happiest. For me, it's a $5 burger.

I love course meals. Allowing the chefs to showcase their unique ideas and talents is something unbelievable

as a picky eater, I definitely think my taste buds wouldn't fit fine dining anyway. it might be a blessing in disguise knowing I won't waste money knowing I'm not gonna like it (most likely).

I splurge on books. So many. Collectors editions. Hard covers. My father had an enormous library that I'll often pick from and buy my own versions depending on if I liked the series or not. It's a privledge and I work hard to do it as a college student. Less food. More reading. ❤

It isn't fair 😭 All of the best food videos are coming into my recommended right now. I have covid and can't smell, taste or even feel hunger for some reason.

I like to splurge on good food with reasonable portions. Fine dining is great but I prefer the homey feeling of the local restaurants more. And the food also tastes great

Angler is one of my most favorite restaurants I went to the SF one recently to splurge for my 1 year anniversary. Its just the most whimsical place.

I prefer splurging money on a ton of different types of fabric (mostly silk). Love creating things with my sewing machine.

if i had the money i probably wouldn't go fine dining because i'm a picky eater - i need to like the texture, the smell and appearance to even try the food
however that is a blessing for me because i want to spend money on clothes, cosplays and art supplies
i need more clothes because i have to go to school face-to-face most of this year because in my country the 1st, 4th, 7th and 12th graders are the ones that spend the most time at face-to-face school
i want to do cosplaying but my family doesn't have enough money for me to do that any time soon
and as for art supplies, i would buy more if i did art more often

I love to splurge on matching book sets, especially the classics. I can own the same book in five different covers but I would still buy it again just so it could fit my collection. Hardcovers too, they're super expensive but I feel accomplished when I spend money on those. Other than that, subtle perfumes are what I really like.

i find this music funny oh the contrast between the kitchen and the dining room, if you ever work in one of these places it will carve your face..the hours..the stress..the tension.. the pressure. but i still love it

Eating fancy is not just about wasting money on expensive food.
It's more about telling your past self that the hard work and study paid of.
