Thousands flee from erupting volcano in the Congo

Thousands of people fled as one of the world's most active and dangerous volcanoes, situated in the African country of the Congo, unleashed huge lava flows.
The night sky turned eerie red as Mount Nyiragongo erupted on Saturday,...and city of Goma with population of about two million people was thrown into panic.

"We're panicked because we've just seen the entire city covered in light that isn't from electricity or lamps or torches. People fleeing from all the areas of the city are telling us that the volcano is erupting, and we've just seen the signs."

According to provincial authorities, at least 13 were killed while fleeing the lava and roughly 500 homes were destroyed and the figures are expected to increase.
The volcano last erupted in 2002 leaving at least 250 people dead and making around 120-thousand people homeless in the city.
