30 years ago I was travelling in Thailand, and at a meditation retreat I spoke with the head monk about this.
I asked 'is it possible to reach enlightened state with psychedelics?'
He answered 'Of couse! But you cannot hold it. You are too weak. To hold it you need to grow the mental muscles. Meditation will build those muscles.' He smiled and chuckled while he answered, every bit the perfect monk presence :)
