Dell Inspiron 8100 Overview & Windows Me Setup

In this video, we check out a vintage Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop that I recently purchased and install Windows Me on it.

Nice work on getting another nice classic Dell laptop up and running! Windows ME (Millennium Edition) was an interesting computer operating system due to the cool things it introduced, in spite of the fact critics saw it as "Windows Mistake Edition" back in the day.

Windows ME was the first windows I ever used. I fell in love with the classic Windows UI with this one.

I was using two of these under windows XP around 2014 when I used to watch Billy’s channel back in the day. They had 2gb ram, 64mb graphics by nVidia and amazing 1600X1200 screen resolution. The cpus were intel pentium 4 at 2.0GHz. I even got Windows 7 going on them but the drivers were off and had issues at times. Thank you.

I envied the 2 people who had laptops like this back in high school in 2003-05 This was the "my family is rich enough to buy a new laptop every 4 years so I have their handmedown" laptop.

Dell did not offer a restore partition on it's computers until later XP days even my Dell Dimension 4400 that came with XP and had an Intel P4 1.8GHz processor. I didn't see the Dell restore powered by Symantec/Norton Ghost until later models.

From my experience with my Inspiron 8000, the Windows Me driver for the ESS Maestro 3i doesn’t provide DOS emulation or hardware MIDI playback. You have to use the Latitude C600/Inspiron 4000 Windows 98 audio driver, which for some reason isn’t on the download page for the C800/I800/C810/8100, which also use the same sound chip.

The trackpoint on my HP EliteBook 8540w is relay good and fast for Hyperbowl and the trackpad on my Inspiron 9400 works well with it too.

On my HP pavilion 6736 computer I have the original factory image of Windows ME and it's not giving me any more trouble then pc I have used running win 98.

yes, Windows ME was rushed out and buggy. Depending on your hardware, it may work well or on some it won't work all that well

I thought you were going to hack Windows Me to get DOS mode to work. Maybe a future video.
