President Joe Biden has approved Gov. Gavin Newsom's request for a presidential emergency declaration so that California can receive federal assistance as it deals with the impact of recent storms. Nancy Ward, the director of the governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), said state leaders may need to request another Major Disaster Declaration from the president, noting she expects the damage from these latest storms to exceed $70 million.
