Introduction to the Protists

This HD dramatic video choreographed to powerful music introduces the viewer/student to the microscopic kingdom of the Protists. It is designed as a motivational "trailer" to be shown in Biology classrooms in middle school, high school and college as a visual Introduction to the amazing world of these tiny creatures.

These creatures are all very common in most ponds, rivers, streams and tidal pools. All you have to do is collect some water from them. However, most microscopes show protists on a bright slide lit by bright light. The microscope used in the video is called a "dark phase contrast" microscope, and uses "special" methods to capture all the color and beauty of these protists. You would have to obtain those microscopes to see what the video shows.

I am so glad you liked it. Protists give us so much to think about when we contemplate the wonder of life. A simple, single cell, capable of so many things in so many environments (including living inside our own bodies in some cases). WOW!
