Just a note that Lance Armstrong talked through his Leadville marathon on the Dauphine / Tour de Suisse episode of his The Move podcast

I want to add to the Infinitus race that Taylor Verville was first female, 5th overall, in the 250mile in 114:20!

Don Ritchie was Scottish (not British). Part of his greatness was his sheer longevity and range. His marathon PB of 2:19:34 came shortly before his 40th birthday in 1983, when he was past his prime and had lost some of his top end speed.

Here is another summary of the great Scottish runner

Being an american, i commented on a lucy bartholomew video that I'm rooting for her... after a very helpful comment by another person, I changed "rooting" to "cheering"....

Is it common practice to only get a partial refund when the race coordinators cancel the event? I understand money was already put towards permits, etc., but this still seems strange to me. I live in PA and have been looking into doing ES100...I'm not so sure now.

In the SC3100 participants must average 59.6 miles per day to finish. Many aim for 100km, not 70-80. A literal handful have ever averaged over 70 miles per day for the duration. Ashprihanal Aalto's WR from 2015 was 40d 9hrs, averaging 76.6 miles per day. Don Ritchie once posited that he thought it theoretically possible for someone to average 80 mpd in a US transcon (Pete ran 42d 6 hrs, averaging around 75). This is a long winded way of saying no one is intending to average 70-80 mid. The leaders may end up on the low end of that range, but the race is long and hard enough that most literally approach it day by day. Occasional updates can be found on their site and on Twitter #SC3100.

Race website (live web cam down the page) with daily totals. There is often a brief description of a highlight from the prior day by RD Sahishnu Szcsesiul. He speaks with subtlety and nuance, and is one of the few experts I rely on for additional insight and commentary for fixed time / extraordinarily long races (as a bonus, he's a bit of an expert on Track and Field too...).

Daily Race Blog, generally with a brief interview. Each day will appear at top of site when you truncate the url:

I've had a funny feeling about Eastern States for a while. I recently moved to PA and thought it would be cool to volunteer at a "bigger" ultra race. Well, it turns out you can email the race director, and any response will be encrypted. It costs $1.50 to unlock the message. I wonder if the runners had to pay to find out their race was cancelled and that they wouldn't be getting full refunds.
