As a kid, i used to gather A LOT of these. I'm talking like... Kilos... And just bring them at home. I thought they were baby mermaids or something. I was also just really curious on what it was. I accidentally popped one and it squirted to my mouth and .. yeah it tasted like the sea.. but more fishy... If i remember correctly.

The fact that it looks like it has a little knot on one end making it look even more like a waterbaloon is perfect.

So it's the cell equivalent of a planet sized animal?

Your expression when you said "delightfully creepy" really made me chuckle, thanks for being so informative and expressive!

I feel like I need to see a drawing of it's structure or see it really up close to fully understand how it's only one cell 🥴😵‍💫

In the saltwater aquarium hobby the common name for this algae is actually bubble algae. I actually kind of like the way it looks when they're small and not covering everything. They remind me of old glass Christmas ornaments. Unfortunately they will quickly take over the whole aquarium and there's not a lot of things that will eat it so you usually have to remove a lot of it by hand

These are so mind bending for me. Never would I have though as a kid that you could have a cell that big and even now that I know about it its so interesting.

Old film was the nitrocellulose type same used in smokeless gunpowder. Which made a huge impact on the world.

There's something so fascinating about things that are supposed to be really small but somehow got big

Sailor’s Eyeball is a pretty badass name for a single celled organism

It shows what might have been instead of multicellularity.

I tried scrolling up to look at the rest of your shirt. It is super cool!

I've never seen it called Sailor's Eyeball in any of the saltwater tank groups/forums I've been in. We just call it "bubble algae".
