One thing to add on to at around 12:30 : Going through the dura, instead of opening it, is pretty common already during implantation of depth electrodes for intracranial EEG. Though, in those cases, the surgeon is literally using a drill. The process is generally drill the trajectory, then insert the electrode with a stylette inside to keep it semi-rigid. Once the electrode is where it's supposed to be, the stylette is removed and the electrode is allowed to go "limp." I'm not up to date on Neuralink or its procedures, but the needle seems to be aiming to do this all in one motion, essentially.

EDIT: You mention in the Blackrock video that you do some consulting work for them. I'm honestly not sure of your credentials so you might have already known everything in this comment 😅
