Can the Constitution Adapt to Future Circumstances? [No. 86]

Показать описание
Professor Ilan Wurman explains how the Founders crafted a constitution that was both permanent and flexible. The provisions of the Constitution are broad enough to account for evolving circumstances that can be accommodated through the democratic process of legislation. For the most fundamental issues, like the abolition of slavery, the Constitution can be updated through the amendment process.
Ilan Wurman is a visiting assistant professor at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, where he teaches administrative law and constitutional law. He is the author of A Debt Against the Living: An Introduction to Originalism (Cambridge 2017).
As always, the Federalist Society takes no position on particular legal or public policy issues; all expressions of opinion are those of the speaker.
