Why are my Pink Hydrangeas white?

I have been getting lots of questions from gardeners why their pink paniculata Hydrangeas are blooming white. The reason is that the large white flowers go through stages as they bloom. Often they start off a lime green to white color, as the flowers start to age they will then start to color up changing from white to light pink and if it is Firelight Hydrangea it will keep going to shade of magenta or red. Do not worry if your pink/red hydrangea is blooming white, be patient the color show is yet to come!

I just planted three of these around a fountain. I can't wait for them to grow!

All of mine have turned pink, except one plant in the middle of our bed! So weird, but we'll wait a bit longer for some "pink." Thanks!

Mine isn't this type but hopefully it is the same situation. Usually I could see hints of the color as they were just starting to bloom but this year it seems to be just white
