My 16 year old daughter was desperate to see this show live so we took the train to NYC for her birthday. I was blown away by the performance - the cast is amazing. The sets were really innovative and really impressed me - especially with the changes they undergo with different inhabitants of the house influencing the decor. They were definitely inspired by Tim Burton's cinematography. (Even the lighting in the theater sets the mood for the show before the curtain even goes up) The choreography was outstanding - especially on the "Beautiful Sound" number which features a number of Beetle Juice "clones."

This show is very off-color, irreverent, and hysterical. So refreshing to see something that is not sanitized to death. It may be a show about death, and it may have some dark themes, but they are dealt with with humor.

We liked the show so much that we got "rush" tickets for another performance and saw it a second time before we had to leave town.

I highly recommend it --though not for most kids under 10. There is some adult humor that may be lost on younger kids entirely. It is a retelling of the original movie which includes some of Lydia's back story--and some further development of relationships not well-explored in the movie. Alex Brightman's Beetle Juice is slightly more affable than the movie version (played by Michael Keaton) but he really brings it for every performance. Sophie Anne Caruso is fantastic as Lydia (the role played by a teenaged Winona Ryder in the movie) and such a talented actress/singer at the young age of 17.

The first time I was like " This is a bad camera person, why aren't they following them?"

Just watching the time that the ensemble has to move around chairs is insane. Literally arranging a chair a certain way one second off could throw off the whole performance. Damn.

Can we please get a professional recording and mini run in movie theaters, maybe with Fathom Events?? This show, this cast, the set design, the horror, and the macabre magic is everything this world needs right now!! Please. Or maybe just extend the run long enough for me to save my pennies for New York!
