So why not make the gap front facing? Would hinder dirt and mud from getting into the seat tube

The clamp gap goes with the frame gap, period. The clamp gap closes and so closes the frame gap... That's how it's engineered.... Obviously!!!

I was always told by my elders to orientate the gap on the clamp 180 degrees out from the slot in the frame. I assumed it was to keep the clamp from creasing the frame.

It 100 percent makes a difference esp for qr clamps

Have owned 2 different frames now where the post would slip when both gaps oriented together. Problem solved when opposed.

I had to rotate it 180 because I couldn't mount my backlight on a seat tube. If I were to leave the clamp as intended I would be forced to keep my backligt lower and then its covered by giant 29 inch wheel and you can't see it properly.

I è are both forward facing because I have external cable routed droppers on both my pre internal routing bikes… they work a treat as they are…😬

That's for round seat posts... those square etc you can't do anything. U use them as they are 😅

If you're doing super steep janky tech and you get off line and have to partially jump off your bike, youll often fall behind the seat while still holding the bars. Jamming a sharp (depending on brand) seat clamp into your crotch or thigh is extremely uncomfortable. Hence having it the other way round.
