Really enjoyed your video as I spent 10 days in Guangzhou in July. It was very hot, around 38C every day! I stayed in a regular hotel in Liwan district and had absolutely no problems, so I guess you just had bad luck. I went to the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, Zhu Jiang Xin Chun and the Canton Tower too. Also South China Botanic Gardens and Foshan, amongst other places, both well worth a visit. I love Guangzhou and will definitely be going back. Your video brought back a lot of happy memories, thank you!

I don't think the security guards( (police) were following you, they just strolling like they usually do. Been to China several times and always see them walking around the street and you can approach them for help.

the room you booked isn't hotel, it's an apartment or homestay. because there is no service guys there, only the guard. when you checked in, the guard need inform the owner to come and talk to you.

Congee is one of the most Cantonese things you can eat, great choice! The steamed rice sheets used to be hand rolled into rolls, which requires more skill/care, it's rare now to see it done that way.

Finishing GuangZhou travel, welcome to Shenzhen. Two cities are very close. Just 30 minutes railway time.

Some of these homestay use misleading photos to lure you in, and when you arrive, they tell you that the room in the photos isn’t available. In reality, they never had such a room. At that point, they’ll ask if you’re willing to switch rooms, and most people agree just to avoid the hassle. In the video, they even suggest that you cancel your booking, shifting the blame onto you since it was your decision to cancel. I recommend filing a complaint in such cases. Also, I advise against staying at these kinds of homestay as they have a higher chance of having hidden cameras compared to hotels.

When We travel to Guangzhou one time same thing happen to us, we book a nice apartment so I can do some work and they sent us to a whole different location and we got there the apartment was not as nice. We actually end up getting refund then went to find an actual hotel. I find in china it is best to stay at a hotel rather than Air BNB type of stays.
