The reason why the earnings ratio doesn't matter, and all the stats about a stock are fugazi is because, the stocks aren't really worth anything except what the next person will pay for. When a company goes bankrupt, in most cases the equity holders get nothing, nada, zip. It's just a big casino and all the fancy numbers about earnings and P/E ratios are silly and meaningless UNLESS you have bought into the illusion of value. This is why people who complain that Bitcoin isn't backed by anything but stocks are quite misinformed. Perhaps if you own a large portion of shares, you have some control over the company but that's about it. That's not something the vast majority of stock holders will have. When the SEC brags about our "capital markets being the best in the world" it just means you aren't getting ripped off openly. The ripoff is disguised with suits and ties.
